Where to stay in Furong Town

Sleep in the village, as close to the waterfall as you can. It lights up after sunset and the 20 minutes right after are the best, so you want to be on your own balcony for that.

The hotels I'd pick

Mine wasn't the fanciest hotel in town, but it has literally the best view of the whole village, right on the waterfall. It's a bit hidden, so you'll drag your bags through the alleys for a few minutes. Worth it.

What to check before you book

A lot of hotels here have the word waterfall in their name. That doesn't mean your room faces it.

  • Read the room name, not only the hotel name. Some rooms look at the river or a courtyard.
  • Look at recent guest photos taken from the balcony.
  • Bring a small bag. There are a lot of stairs.

How long to stay

One night is enough. Get there in the afternoon, watch the waterfall light up, and walk the village before 9 the next morning. After that, the tour buses arrive. Here's what to do while you're there.

Getting there

The train from Zhangjiajie West takes 23 minutes, then it's a short taxi ride to the village. Here's how it works.
